Writing a Book From Pain. Is that a Good Idea? Or just Therapy?

Writing and publishing a book is hard work.
And when you are motivated to write the book because of the pain you've endured, you have to ask yourself a few questions before you take the plunge.
1. Is this just to make "me" feel better and get this off my chest? Do I really just want the world to know how much I've endured and overcome?
2. Is this book something that I know will really benefit the reader or am I just publishing my pain - hoping it will give me power? Can this just an article in magazine - does it really need to be a whole book?
There are several ways to sell a book. One at a time, telling people about individually or use current marketing techniques.
Because if you publish you want to sell it, right? Writing is really just 10% of the process - marketing/promoting is the other 90%.
For starters, you need YOUR OWN website and that has "findability." Meaning people can find your website based on the topic or your name. It's not enough to be on the publishers website or amazon. People connect with people and they want to know about YOU. After you sell them the book, now what? Do you speak? Do you consult? Give Workshops? What? Your website is your window to the world.
And also you need a Platform. See this blog post how to Build a Platform
And finally, you need to know that selling books out of trunk of your car or in the mall or getting a booth at a trade show is not going to make a dent in your literary career - unless you have a whole lot of time and money. The best way to sell books is online by creating a demand via the social networking sites and using SEO.
Finally, the key thing - use your "real" name. Brand YOU. If you want to be known - no disguises. Be authentic. Be you. Don't be afraid to shine - but don't run people down to buy your book. Offer value, propose solutions. Not just "gossip." Market yourself so that come to YOU.
This book is probably a good book, but I could NOT find it anywhere on the internet except on book sales sites. There were not any "third party" endorsements or "social connectivity" about the author either.
How many other "good" books are out there - but you can NOT find unless you run into the author at the mall or at booth or book event?
Finally Unrestricted
By Nova
For Nova Wallace, life was never easy. Living in poverty, she became a single mom at fifteen, yet she still graduated high school on time. Her determination to provide a better life for her child energized her. She landed a job with GM and started her first semester of community college. Then, when she accepted a promotion, everything changed.
Nova’s new job soon guaranteed her financial security, and she bought a condo and a new Cadillac—only to have an injury on the assembly line set her back. She decided to pursue another career, going back to college and renting her condo to her youngest brother. But when a $10,000 bill for violations and fines showed up from her condo association, Nova knew the rug had been swept from under her feet.
Forced to take action, Nova sued her brother on the Judge Joe Brown show. It was just the beginning. She won the lawsuit, but huge legal fees remained. Determined to expunge them, Nova embarked on a journey of justice that left her entangled in personal and professional conflict. It was then that she learned the true meaning of life as an African American woman.
Spanning the course of five years, Finally Unrestricted is a brutally honest memoir of betrayal, redemption, and what it means to have a dream—and then lose it.

Are you taking the HIGHWAY? Dr. Teresa Hairston is! So did Mary Mary.
You may know her as the founder and publisher of Gospel Today. What you may not know about Teresa Hairston, however, is that back in 1989, as a divorced mother of three small children, all she was able to scrape together to invest in her “dream” of becoming a publisher was $300. That’s it. She had $300, three small children, no husband and a dream. Today, Gospel Today magazine is a reality, and is the most respected Urban Christian lifestyle publication in the marketplace. Her motto is: “When God gives you a vision, He’ll make the provision!” She says, “My goal in life is to use everything that I’ve been through, everything that I am and everything that I endeavor to do to glorify God and build His Kingdom. I want to help people understand that they can achieve their God-inspired visions. Just step out on faith, and watch God make the way.”
Meet my mentor, Dr. Teresa Hairston!

Mental Disorder is nothing to play with! Charlie Sheen needs Help
If you have been around anyone has a mental disorder: bi-polar, manic depression, schizophrenia or any type of state that makes a person less than their best - you know it's not a laughing matter.
Someone with mental illness can cause harm to themselves or others. Those not in the "spotlight" have a hard time - imagine what it's like to deal with these issues in the spotlight. It literally can make you MORE crazy!
One of my favorite artists, Phyllis Hyman suffered from depression and was found dead two hours before she was to perform at the Apollo Theater in New York in 1995. Such pain she must of felt to take her life.
Strange behavior should not be ignored or laughed at. Think about Judy Garland, John Belushi, Michael Jackson - they were great entertainers - but their lives ended so tragically. They were crying out in pain.
So instead of jumping to follow a celebrity who has some "issues" on twitter (Charlie Sheen broke the World Record the most Twitter followers in the shortest span of time), stop yourself. Don't add to the noise - instead try to influence others to help him. Or at the very least, don't take the bait of media who seem to "egg on" the antics of the disturbed. Ignore mess - and pray that they get help soon.
Don't let this end up a sad case of a celebrity suicide - no one will be laughing or amused then.

You have NO excuses. Quit acting DUMB! India Arie: Strength, Courage & Wisdom
It takes so little to be above Average.
And with a little bit of strength, courage and wisdom
YOU CAN BE OUTSTANDING!
I love this song because these three qualities will make you a Super Star. Really.
YOU need strength - but that's really a mindset and a decision to want to BE STRONG.
YOU need courage - but that's just a matter of facing your fears and knowing WHO you have on the inside of you. Knowing that GOD is with you and He will never forsake you.
Move from just words, to really believing it!
YOU need wisdom. And that is taking all that you know and acting on it. Applying what you heard, seen and read about - and applying it to your life. That's wisdom.
So the next time you feel weak, afraid or ignorant - BREATHE in and remember you have everything you need already inside of you.
You may have to dig deep or click some buttons or burn the midnight oil - but you can do anything you put your mind to.
It starts with a desire, your will and your belief in GOD and in YOURSELF!

Your Health Is Your Wealth - 5 Ways To Ease Stress And Stay Healthy
![]() |
| Pam Perry warming up for her hip hop class! LOL |
that are important to you. Your health is really a testament of your greatest wealth.
5 Ways to Ease Stress and Stay Healthy
1. Get enough sleep. The more rested you are, the better you will be able to handle stress in your life. Some people need an average of eight hours of sleep every night to function normally. Some need less than that, others need more. Key: Find your sleeping pattern and adjust your schedule as best as you can to meet that need.
2. Balance your diet. Make sure your diet includes all the nutrients your body needs to keep you going strong. Eat plenty of fruits and green leafy vegetables. Also if you limit the amount of sugary and fatty foods and soft drinks you consume you will notice a dramatic change in your energy level. Likewise, cutting back on caffeine and alcohol will assist in strengthening your body as well. I know it's much easier said than done. Key: look at one thing you can scale back on and one thing you can increase this week to balance your diet. This week I will eat fewer starches, and drink more fresh pressed juices. What will you do?
3. Exercise. Physical activity is a great stress reliever. Do something that you enjoy, so that it doesn't seem like a chore. For motivation, include a friend. That could mean playing a sport such as tennis, or having a partner to exercise with at the gym or walk or jog with. Key: Do something consistently. I dusted off my Billie Blanks last week and did 20 minutes for 4 consecutive days. Can you agree to do some form of physical activity this week?
4. Reach out. When you're stressed, sometimes the last thing you want to do is socialize. But being with people and having fun can help you forget your troubles for a while. It's not healthy to dwell on them every minute. It's also good to talk about your problems with someone who cares about you and whom you can trust -- a friend, a family member, a spouse, or even a therapist or life coach. Key: To not lean on your own understanding, ask for help. I reenergized relationships with strategic business partners and other coaches. Who will you reach out to for help?
5. Relax. In addition to all the above, a few minutes of down time does a lot of good. There are so many resources available to you; listening to soothing music, taking a walk or drive, stretching or doing yoga, lightening candles, etc. Key: To take the time for yourself. At the end of each evening, I will continue my routine of giving thanks for all the people and things I am grateful for.
What will you do this week to relax? These tips make for a GREAT week. I encourage you to take them all on, or at least one of them a day. Let's all take the charge and remember, 'your health is your greatest wealth."

Martin Luther King Tribute: I have a DREAM, and I Work It Every Day
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King was more than just a historical figure to me. His work, his vision, his dream inspired me:
1. To go and finish college (making me the first in my family to do so).
2. To major in communications so that I could tell “our stories” in the media. During college, I organized The National Black Women in Media student chapter and supported other type of groups including the National Association of Black Journalists.
3. After college, while working in media, I started another group, Blacks in Advertising and Radio and Television (BART), a non-profit career development and mentoring organization that held annual career days and gave away scholarships to African American students over a ten-year period.
3. During the course of my career, I constantly sought out jobs that would make a difference and have an impact on the community. I landed a job as a development director for a small non-profit that sent inner-city kids to Christian camp during the summer; then worked as Public Relations Director for The Salvation Army.
4. Finally now, in my ten-year old business, Ministry Marketing Solutions Inc., where the mission is “Marketing The Message” – a message that matters and is life-changing. We promote authors, ministries, non-profits and minority-owned businesses. Before using only tradition media, now leveraging messages using New Media.
As a great-grand daughter of a former slave, I still have a dream. And I work it everyday. I never will forget where I came from – and I keep my eye on the prize of where I’m going.
What about you?
How did Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and the “Movement” inspire you?
